Coach Biographies

Dalton Thrower

South Delta Minor Hockey is excited to welcome Dalton Thrower as the new U11 A1 Head Coach!  Dalton achieved significant success on the ice, playing in the WHL for the Saskatoon Blades and captaining the Vancouver Giants. His talent led to his drafting by the Montreal Canadiens (2nd round, 2012) and a subsequent professional playing career in the AHL and ECHL. Dalton has already begun his coaching journey, serving as an Assistant Coach with the BCEHL U15 AAA Northwest Hawks, Hollyburn U11 A1, and our own SDMHA U13 A1 team. His playing pedigree and early coaching experience make him a valuable addition to our coaching staff. Welcome Coach Thrower!

Steve Howitt

We are happy to announce Steve's return for his third season as our U11 A2 coach. Steve's deep understanding of the game comes from his playing days in Richmond minor hockey, junior with the Richmond Sockeyes, and university with the UBC Thunderbirds. His experience as an accomplished referee adds another valuable dimension to his coaching. Since 2012, Steve has been committed to developing young players at all levels. We look forward to another successful season with Steve at the helm of our U11 A2 team.

Jackson Houck

SDMHA is excited to have Jackson back as Head Coach for the U13 A1 team. Jackson's extensive playing career, including five years in the WHL and being drafted by the Edmonton Oilers, provides a strong foundation for player development. His time playing under Don Hay with the Vancouver Giants instilled a deep understanding of game tactics and strategy.  Jackson successfully guided our U13 A1 team to the Provincial tournament in March 2025. As a member of the SDMHA skill development team, and with previous coaching experience at the U15 A1 and U13 A2 levels, Jackson is dedicated to fostering the growth of our young athletes.

Jeff Overgaard

Fresh off a successful season that saw the team capture a playoff banner, Jeff will again be behind the bench of our U13 A2 team.  With a decade of coaching at SDMHA from U7 to U18, including five years with U11 and U13 rep teams, Jeff has a proven track record. His playing experience includes junior hockey with the Richmond Sockeyes. Welcome back, Coach Jeff!

Peter Zed

We are thrilled to announce the return of Peter Zed as Head Coach of our U15 A1 team. This marks his fourth consecutive year leading the U15 A1 program.  Peter brings a proven commitment to player development, underscored by his NCCP High Performance 1 certification. Coach Zed's advanced foundation in player development has consistently yielded results on the ice. Under his guidance, the U15 A1 team has achieved an impressive streak of three consecutive appearances in the Final Four Championships; going on to win the Provincial Championship Banner last season

Andrew Seppanen

Andrew played his junior career as a goalie with the Airdrie Thunder and Comox Valley Glacier Kings. After playing, Andrew was the General Manager of the Mackenzie Mountaineers Hockey Club and then Assistant Coach for the Campbell River Storm.  Andrew presently owns and operates Top Level Performance Institute in Richmond.  He’s back for his third season as our U15 A2 coach.

Ken Priestlay

SDMHA is proud to announce Ken Priestlay is again Head Coach for our U18 A1 team. Mr. Priestlay, a two-time Stanley Cup winner, brings a proven track record of success to our program.  The tenure of Coach Priestlay has brought in an era of remarkable achievement guiding our U18 A1 team to three consecutive Provincial Championships from 2022 to 2024.  Ken's leadership, championship experience, and ability to cultivate a winning culture are invaluable assets to the team and our entire community.

Quinten Wideski

We are eager to share the news of Quinten Wideski as the Head Coach of U18 A2.  After excelling as an SDMHA rep player, Quinten played junior hockey and captained the Delta Ice Hawks. He honed his coaching skills as an Assistant Coach with the Ice Hawks for seven seasons.  Last year, Quinten demonstrated his ability to develop young talent, leading our U11 A1 team to placement in the inter-conference flight and advancing to the Playoff Championship round. As a South Delta alumni, with coaching experience at both junior and minor levels, Quinten is uniquely positioned to mentor and guide our U18 players.

We want to take this opportunity to recognize the entire 2024 - 2025 coaching staff. Thank you for your dedication to the players, our association and community!
